Client: Goethe Institut Istanbul

German-Turkish cultural history is marked by mutual projections, desires and prejudices. These imaginary worlds exist on both sides, they also belong to the mental basis of social, political and cultural German-Turkish reality. With the recruitment of millions of workers from Turkey, these ideas were put on an entirely new and broad social and cultural political base. For the exhibition project "Fiktion Okzident", 18 contemporary artists were invited to address these imaginary worlds and their collision with reality in their works.
 
The branding idea comes from the image of a setting sun, derived from the definition of the word occident: "western lands or regions; the west. From Latin occidere, to fall, go down, with reference to the setting sun."
